June 2010 TEEING OFF written by Barry Gordon

Let's build the longest golf course the world has ever seen,
of sand and rock and saltbush, and very little green.
Inviting every traveler to stop and say G'day,
at all the great roadhouses, they meet along the way.

To embrace Australia's outback across the Nullarbor,
giving city-slicker golfers, a reason to explore.
They emptied out two bottles of good old Aussie red,
then locked in the idea, and toddled off to bed.

Each hole will set a challenge unique in every way,
bringing joy and laughter, to all of those who play.
A big black crow will swoop to pick up your small golf ball,
the Nullarbor Nymph's appearance, will make all golfers stall.

They dreamt of creating history in the outback sun,
the dream turned to a nightmare, chasing a hole in one.
No need to set up obstacles nature will provide,
With roo and sheep and black crows, restricting those long drives.

Camels and fat wombats, goats, lizards and snakes too,
Wedge tail eagles soar above, feast on rabbit stew.
Sheep and Emu lend a hand; throw in the mad march flies,
All working hard together, bringing tears to golfers' eyes.

Dingo Den and Wombat Hole or on the Brumby run,
don't take yourself too serious, mostly it's for fun.
It's an outback experience Aussie through and through,
but discussions on the strokes, will cause a blue or two.

The people at the roadhouse enjoy your company true,
and welcome every golfer, to stay or play on through.
So get some mates together and you'll have fun galore,
On the world's longest golf course, across the Nullarbor.
